Congratulations to all the students, teachers, and judges who participated in this year’s Hawaiʻi History Day District Virtual Fairs. This district fair season tested our resilience, commitment, and care for one another, our communities, and our histories. We are ecstatic to share with you the 2021 results and the projects that our Hawaiʻi History Day students and teachers worked incredibly hard to complete. Aloha to our Teachers, Students, and Families,

As 2020 comes to an end, we reflect upon this past year of struggle, confusion, and at times despair not knowing how we could move forward (in person or virtually) to care for and teach our students, while also keeping our families and ourselves safe. Although the struggle continues, there are beautiful silver linings that remind us what is truly important. We are getting back to basics such as: slowing down and sharing a home-cooked meal with our family, having a conversation over the phone with a friend, getting some fresh air by taking a walk, going to the beach or just standing in the sun. We hope you are able to find your silver linings as we end this year together. Our Hawai’i History Day team is deeply grateful and appreciative for each and every one of you who, despite a turbulent and unprecedented year, have participated in our various workshops, events, and the Hawai’i History Day program.

Aloha Hawai’i History Day Community,

We would like to celebrate our amazing students and teachers as we have completed one of the most challenging and unexpected school years to date. In the midst of a global pandemic we were able to conduct five in person district fairs (Windward, Maui, Hawaiʻi, Central, & Honolulu), three virtual fairs (Leeward, Molokaʻi, and Kauaʻi), and our first state virtual fair. This year we had over 800 students, 106 teachers, 55 schools and 219 judges participate in our district & state fairs.

Aloha Hawai’i History Day Teachers,

Like all of you, we have been experiencing a volatile week with COVID-19 and the programmatic and daily life changes we will have to make to best take care of our community’s health.

To avoid large public gatherings and travel during the next few months, and in consultation with National Contest and our venue partners, we have decided to run our State Fair on April 11th as a virtual contest.
