The Bookshelf: Presentations with Lani Teves & Dr. Joyce Pualani Warren

From the Lāhui Hawaiʻi Research Center and Native Hawaiian Student Services at UHM:

We have two dynamic presentations this week! Our Bookshelf webinar this week is with Lani Teves, Associate Professor of Women’s Studies, and Dr. Joyce Pualani Warren, Assistant Professor in the Department of English. Lani Teves will present “Finding Mary: Diasporic Hawaiian Women & Performance in the Archive” and Dr. Joyce Pualani Warren will present “Embodying the Hoʻi Mai: Diaspora, Imagined Futures, and the Kanaka Maoli Graphic Novel”.
Lani Teves is an Associate Professor of Women’s Studies at UHM where she teaches courses on Indigenous feminisms and queer theory. Teves is author of Defiant Indigeneity: The Politics of Hawaiian Performance and co-editor of Native Studies Keywords.
Pualani Warren is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, where she teaches courses on Native Hawaiian, Pacific, and Ethnic American literatures. Her research interests include Pō, Mana Wahine, indigeneity, diaspora, blackness, and speculative fiction. She was previously a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oregon. She holds a PhD in English from the University of California, Los Angeles.
The Bookshelf, a live webinar series designed and developed by NHSS, attempts to bridge community to UH Mānoa by showcasing Hawaiian faculty & their research and sharing their ʻike with our lāhui. The Bookshelf will be broadcasted each Thursday from 11am-12pm via Zoom and Facebook live. For more information and to RSVP for this webinar, click here.
